Baihao Yinzhen Tea Introduction

Silver Needle White Tea is a famous historical tea, known as the “Beauty” and “King of Tea” among teas. Since all fresh leaves are tea buds, the finished tea is shaped like a needle, with dense white hairs and a silvery white color, hence the name Silver Needle White Tea. Although Silver Needle White Tea is a type of tea, it has a high medicinal value and can clear away heat and detoxify, so it is also known as “as effective as rhinoceros horn”.

Baihao Yinzhen Tea History

Baihao Yinzhen was created in 1889, with a history of more than 100 years. It was exported in the 16th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1891). In 1982, it was rated as a national famous tea by the Ministry of Commerce. Later, new famous teas such as Yin Gou, Yin Hou, Yin Qiu and Yin Long were created. In 2009, Fuding Baihao Yinzhen was awarded the title of “China’s Top Famous Tea”.

Baihao Yinzhen Tea Production Process

Generally, the tea is picked from late March to before Qingming Festival. It should be picked early, tender, frequently and cleanly. The spring buds of Zhenghe Dabaicha or Fuding Dahaocha are used as raw materials. The standard requirements for fresh leaves are very strict. The best ones are those with fat top buds and large hair cores. Insect-infested buds, hollow buds, purple buds and diseased buds are not allowed. The newly unfolded fresh leaves of one bud and one leaf picked in spring, even single buds, must be stripped of the tea buds, commonly known as “peeling needles” (that is, gently peeling the true leaves and fish leaves with fingers). After the fresh leaves are picked, they are made through several processes such as withering and drying (drying or sun drying). Drying is done by baking in a baking cage with a low fire, and the baking temperature is 30 to 40℃. A piece of paper is often placed on the baking stem to prevent the temperature from being too high and burning the tea buds.

Baihao Yinzhen Tea Purchase Guide

The annual production of Baihao Yinzhen is small and the price is relatively expensive. Among the brands currently sold on the market, those with relatively high quality include “Zheng Chuanyuan”, “Pinpinxiang”, “Luxueya” and “Duoqi”, which can be used as a reference for purchase.

Baihao Yinzhen Tea Quality Identification

◎ Silver Needle Baihao is made from unopened plump and tender buds. The buds are plump, straight, and even, with obvious white hairs, silver-gray color, and sparkling. ◎ After brewing, the high-quality Silver Needle Baihao has the buds pointed upwards, and the tea buds slowly fall into the cup and then slowly sink to the bottom of the cup. The tea buds stand upright and intertwine up and down, which is extremely spectacular.

Baihao Yinzhen Tea Brewing Method

To brew Baihao Yinzhen, you can use a transparent glass cup with water temperature of 95-100℃ (if the water temperature is low, the brewing time should be appropriately extended). After warming the cup, you can put 3 grams of tea leaves and add about 200 ml of water. Then, hold the bottom of the cup with one hand and the cup with the other hand, and gently tilt the cup clockwise for about half a minute to allow the tea leaves to further absorb water and give full play to the aroma of the tea. After brewing for 5 minutes, you can smell the aroma and taste the tea.
