Baiya Qilan Tea Introduction

Baiya Qilan is a famous historical tea. It is said that during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795), a strange tea tree grew beside the “well” in Pengxi Village, Qiling Township, under Daqin Mountain. The newly sprouted buds and leaves were white-green. So they picked its fresh leaves and made oolong tea. It turned out that the tea had a strange orchid fragrance, so it was named “Baiya Qilan”.

Baiya Qilan was created during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty and is a famous historical tea in Fujian Province. Baiya Qilan Tea Production Process

The picking standard of Baiya Qilan is that the leaves should be small to medium-sized with three or four leaves, and the leaves should be kept fresh, clean and complete. After the leaves are picked, they are made through dozens of processes such as airing, sun drying, shaking, killing, rolling, initial baking, initial wrapping and kneading, re-baking, re-wrapping and kneading, and sufficient drying. Baiya Qilan Tea Brewing Method

Baiya Qilan is best brewed in a purple clay teapot or white porcelain covered bowl, with the water temperature at around 100℃. Generally, 8 grams of tea leaves are placed in a covered bowl and brewed with boiling water. The first water is used to wash the tea leaves, and the second water is used to brew for about 3 minutes before drinking. If you are afraid of astringency, it is recommended to brew it with a lighter ratio of tea leaves to water of 1:60.
