Gougunao Tea Introduction

Gougunnao Tea is a famous tea in history, named after the Gougunnao Mountain which is shaped like a dog’s head. The high quality of Gougunnao Tea is due to the unique natural conditions: the mountain is lush with trees, filled with clouds and mist, and has fertile and pollution-free Wusha loam. Pesticides have never been sprayed on the mountain, which is a “high mountain tea”. The second reason is the unique and strict harvesting and processing technology.

Gougunao Tea History

Gougunnao tea was created in the Qing Dynasty and was formerly known as “Yushan Tea”. In 2008, it won the gold medal at the China Green Food Expo awarded by the Ministry of Commerce and the Jiangxi Provincial Government; in 2009, it won the gold medal at the Second Jiangxi Green Tea Expo; in 2011, it won the first prize at the Ninth “China Tea Cup” National Famous Tea Competition; in 2012, it obtained the Geographical Indication Certification Trademark Certificate awarded by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

Gougunao Tea Production Process

Picking begins around the Qingming Festival. The standard for fresh leaves of high-grade Gougunnao tea is fresh leaves with one bud and one leaf just beginning to unfold. The picking of this tea is very particular, requiring that dewy leaves not be picked, rainy days not be picked, and sunny days not be picked at noon. After picking, the fresh leaves must be sorted, and fish leaves and purple bud leaves must be removed. Then, they must go through the processes of killing green, first rolling, second rolling, re-rolling, shaping and lifting, frying and drying, and packaging. Among them, killing green requires high temperature and small amount, and the tea must be taken out of the pot immediately when the tea is fragrant. Especially for special-grade tea, the amount of tea in each pot is controlled at 0.2 to 0.6 kg.

Gougunao Tea Brewing Method

To brew Gougunnao tea, you can use a glass or white porcelain cup, with 3 to 5 grams of tea and a tea-water ratio of about 1:50 (3 grams of tea to 150 ml of water). Use boiling water for the first time, with the amount of water being 1/3. Then, after you smell the aroma of the green tea, add water at about 85℃ and brew for about 3 minutes before drinking.
